İzmir Is the Leader in the Wind Sector
The total installed wind power capacity in Turkey has reached 6,438 MW in the first six months of the year. İzmir ranked first among provinces in terms of capacity with 1.333 MW.
Turkish Wind Energy Association (TÜREB) has released their "Wind Energy Statistics Report" for the January-June period.
According to the report, 75% of the active wind power plants (RES) in terms of installed power are located in the Aegean and Marmara regions. Also, 28% of the currently ongoing constructions are located in the Central Anatolia region.
İzmir leads in capacity
The provincial ranking of installed capacity in Turkey has also changed in the first half of the year. While Balıkesir ranked first in terms of wind capacity last year in the January-June period with a 970 MW capacity, İzmir became the leader this year in the same period with 1.333 MW.
Following İzmir was Balıkesir with 1.069 MW and Manisa with 650 MW. Thus, in the first six months of the year, the installed capacity has reached a total of 6.438 MW with the addition of 377 MW in the first six months.
On the other hand, the electricity demand of 440.000 residences was provided through wind energy in the first half of the year. During this period, 398 million dollars of energy import was prevented thanks to the electricity generated from wind.
The installed wind power capacity in Turkey reached 6.106 MW with the addition of 1.378 MW of plant in 2016.
