Another Important Investment: LM Wind Power Wants to Become a Part of Bergama! 12 January 2017

Having established its 14th factory in Bergama, LM Wind Power has also opened its training center in the region. Speaking at the meeting the Bergama Mayor Gönenç expressed his support for the company while the LM Wind Power Vice Chairman Malefijit stated: "We want to be a part of the Bergama community."

LM Wind Power, Denmark's renewable energy equipment giant, held the opening ceremony of their training center in Bergama.

LM Wind Power made the decision to establish their 14th wind power plant, blade and equipment production facility in Bergama Organized Industrial Zone last summer. While the construction of the facility continues, the company transformed a former textile factory owned by the Bergama Municipality into a training center.

Attending the opening ceremony at the training center were: Bergama Mayor Mehmet Gönenç, Bergama District Governor Osman Nuri Canatan, Bergama Organized Industrial Zone Chairman Hüseyin Vatansever, President of Bergama Chamber of Commerce Fikret Ürper, LM Wind Power Vice Chairman of Board Ben Malefijit and LM Wind Power European Operations Director Jesper Sorensen.

TRAINING IS OUR FIRST PRIORITY

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Training Center, the LM Wind Power Factory Director Ozan Mamay gave information about the factory to be established and the training center. Mamay stated: At least 500 people will participate in the production of LM Wind Power at the factory in Bergama. The wind resources in Turkey are promising. 30% of the country's energy needs will be met with renewable energy resources in line with the 2023 targets. Our company has made investments in this direction. Before the factory, € 8 million was spent just for training. So far 40 engineers and employees have begun to work. Theoretical and practical trainings will be carried out here after the trainings abroad. Training is our first priority. We are currently establishing the educational infrastructure in order to reach our targets."

WE WANT TO BE A PART OF THE BERGAMA COMMUNITY

Giving his speech after Mamay, the LM Wind Power Vice Chairman of Board Ben Malefijit expressed that they have overcome the difficult 6 month period after the construction started before the July 15 coup attempt.

Malefijit stated: "We said 'Say what you do and do what you said' while starting off on July 14th.We said that we wanted to establish a factory to start operating within a year and that we wanted to achieve this with a Turkish team we will build here. On the very next day, there were significant changes in Turkey. We observed terrorism and economic problems not only in Turkey but all over the world. We have observed the depreciation of the Turkish lira. We faced many obstacles. But you must be sure that everyone here feels proud for keeping the promise made 6 months ago. We should keep acting together in the next 6 months. We want to be a part of the Bergama community."

IT IS FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE LIFE QUALITY IN BERGAMA

Bergama Mayor Mehmet Gönenç stated: "It is a great joy for the people of Bergama to be here today. It was an investment we were longing for towards the improvement of the life quality in Bergama. Bergama OIZ had long been waiting for such an investment. The agreement made on July 14th is of great importance for Bergama."

AN ECO-INVESTMENT IN AN ECO-DISTRICT

Speaking about the oppositions against the mines in Bergama, Gönenç said: "Historical heritage is the first thing that comes to mind when Bergama is considered. The environmental awareness of the district comes right after. First environmentalist uprisings had begun in Bergama. Therefore it is very important for such an environmentalist investment to be established in Bergama. Coal-fired energy sources such as thermal power plants may cause trouble for us at any moment. We need to turn to investments towards wind and solar energy while opposing to those."

WE WILL NOT FORGET OUR FRIENDS WHO STAYED DETERMINED DURING DIFFICULT TIMES

Thanking the company for their determination on their investment despite the coup attempt, Gönenç added: "Turkey woke up to a different Turkey on the morning of July 15th.We have left behind very difficult days. The continuation of the investments was important for us after the agreement signed on July 14th. We will never forget our friends who stayed determined during this difficult time period. Our mission from now on is to provide convenience for LM Wind Power."

SUMMIT FOR THE TRANSPORTATION OF BLADES

Giving a speech at the end, the Bergama District Governor Osman Nuri Canatan stated that they have talked about the safe transportation of wind blades with İzmir Governor Erol Ayyıldız and added: "This period of 6 months was just like witnessing a childbirth. The works still continue without a hitch. We will provide any kind of support for the fulfillment of the investments as the local authority. Just the previous day, we had an interview about the transportation of blades with our Governor."
